Incidentally, Frutiger, you know when we've admitted our preference for keeping our raw denim as dark as possible for as long as possible? Well I've got these Japanese selvage Wranglers, which I picked up a couple of years ago, and they simply will not fade, probably because they're broken twill.

I'm not a huge Wrangler fan, I must admit, but they fit me perfectly, look great with my Solebox Berlins, and are as dark as the day I bought them. I haven't seen them before or since (I think they were quite limited), and it's rare to get selvage Wranglers, because they usually have that horrible felled outseam, which I don't like at all. Still if anybody is going to do a good job on a pair of Wranglers, it's the Japanese.

Ah, interesting. I may have to have a hunt.

Got a new pair of Albam's last night (picking them up today as they've been shortened). It's there new cut - slight more in the seam but with a more tapered leg. I'll whack some pics up when I've got them.

That would be awesome, I never actually got around to sending pairs off to get them done, mainly because of the cost of sending them to foreign countries, so a London service would be handy. Do you know when it will be up and running?

I have no idea. Just noticed it on their site.

Great news. I might trial it on a pair of old APC jeans.

Edit: Just thought that there was a small chance that my post, despite my opinion, which I can back up, might cause problems for CT. So it's gone.

hem with tape, i use Duck tape, before you let 'em loose on your suede's, but you knew that already, right???

Depending on how severe the stain, very fine sand paper will shift some denim bleed on suede, but obviously it's not a great idea to do it often or on heavier stains as you'll wear down the suede too much. You can get suede blocks from most cobblers and it's basically just a very fine sanding block and it does just the same job.

I've got 2 pairs of the same LVC 1955s, so I'll get it done on one of them and see what the results are like, but I'm defintitely glad someone in the UK is offering the service.

Now, I line the inside of the hem of all my raw denim with duck/gaffer tape. The thing is, the only decently adhesive duck/gaffer tape I could get was black, which can leave its own set of stains. Easier to shift than denim stains, of course, but still unsightly on white laces and light-coloured suede.

^ I've used Grey/Silver Duck tape on my Edwins and haven't noticed any staining at all, even put them through

a 30 deg wash last week and the adhesive has stayed true throughout! Previously i've tried some grey tape

which i use at work to seal fire backplates to the wall, so industrial stuff, but it didnt last half as well as the duck

tape has.

Yeah, I'm gonna go for a different colour I think. White Duck tape would be the best, if they do it in white, of course. But, as I said, the black tape regularly leaves black smudges on white laces and light suede.

To avoid this you can get clear duck tape, just has the white webbing lines in it. No mess and still sticky as f**k :brassknocks:

When buying denim; should you buy one size smaller cause the waist will stretch afterwards, or should you buy your true size?

I've got a pair of Nashvilles in 30" (bought one size down), width-wise they fit great, but the denim strangle onto my thighs which remind of a pair of logs.

So should I size up, or should I look after a looser cut?

I think the waist is the least important part of the fit - you can always wear a belt but if your nads or thighs are crushed to hel, the jeans dont fit whatever the waist

Need some advice on the fit of Edwin 47 Rainbow Selvedge - I normally wear a 30" waist but thought maybe I should get a 32" for possible shrinkage/ Jap makers being more honest with their sizing etc?:baffled:
Sorry if this has been covered, can't check through the whole thread - trying to subtly find this out & place the order at work ... in advance

According to Oi Polloi the shrinkage should be minimal (presumably because the denim is sanforised) and should stretch back out after a few wears, so you're probably ok to go for the 30". Oi Polloi's measurements say the legs are a little longer than indicated so shrinkage in that direction shouldn't cause any issues.

32s may be ok as they won't really stretch if you're not filling them out (ooh-err). Depends whether you're planning on putting on weight any time soon!

I imagine the stretching out of 32"s due to fillage would only occur having taken up some of the kind pharmaceutical offers that arrive in my junk mail box, luckily changed the order to 30" so will try & keep to the losing weight :burger::choco: plan for now .
Ordered from here for £60 btw, thanks to whoever it was that mentioned it heads up.They have their '90% sale' over this weekend.http://www.meetbernard.com/shop/catalogue/jeans/edwin/rainbow_selvage/blue_selvage

Hi, does anyone have suggestions on denim in the same fit as the Edwin ED-47? Love this fit but seem to be unable to find anywhere with 32x32 at the moment.

I'd recommend them. Look well made, lots of nice detailing. Rarely see quality jeans for that kinda price. Sale ends on Saturday if that'll help make your mind up.
