next step will be shoes with pre-crumbled midsoles and cracked paint, just for that extra OG look

I think with a clean up they'll actually be a bit better than the ones JD put out, at least they've used suede instead of cardboard on the upper.

Like all of the light retros they're still shite when compared to the OG's.

the yellow on the rear half of the midsole of the red one doesn't make them look vintage. They make it look like someone has accidentally trodden in some paint.

judging from these pics, they don't look that bad imo (except the yellow rubbish, of course!). the shape looks quite ok as compared to the "normal" retros.

“1's the 1's”
I have seen them as they are available now at select shops. They look great, shape is pretty damn good and the suede / mesh combo is premium. The yellow crap will come off with acetone I hope. Maybe someone could suggest something else that could work.

They do look a bit better than the previous retros:-

But, they're still not flat like the og's and they're still using the same crappy coarse mesh. Plus the shape of the panelling is still wrong...

I find it hard to believe that they would have used a new tooling/mold for these "vintage" ones other than what the factories have been working with since the first production run of the retro.
They even appeared to get shittier from year to year when you compare the current releases with the first few ones.
But maybe that's just me overreacting...well the shoe is a touchy subject (or used to be).

I find that hard to believe that too but they used different tooling (well a thicker midsole) on the recent vortex compared to the ones from the earlier 00's, plus various other air max retro midsoles have changed over the past ten years (90, 95, 93, 97, etc).

I do believe that aged rear section of the midsole coupled with the real suede creates somewhat of optical illusion, i.e. it looks better in pics than the earlier retro. I guess we'll have to see them in the flesh to be able to properly appraise them?

Anyway here's an og/new retro comparison:-

interesting...
tbh if I can remove that yellow crap with acetone and if CT stock'em and by chance they inbox me that TIA voucher code before 2012, I might pull the trigger on the red one then....

Will acetone take the yellowing off ok? If it does they'll be alright.

Personally I wouldn't use acetone on a PU midsole unless I was stripping it down to repaint it. Babywipes, magic eraser with water or a pencil eraser would be the methods I'd try first with acetone being the last resort.

@Tronics, shape is much more better than many other retros to not name them and that scuffed suede is much more better than all them synthetic suedes imo...

just a matter of time before this treatment happens to the AM1 - hell at least Nike remembered what REAL suede is - if only they could sort out the mesh they would be half way there - how hard can it be?

Yeah REAL suede..thing is though, on the OG there was no suede..

But all in all i like the look of these as i gave up hope for the perfect retro..even liking the yellowing, although a few shades lighter would be better.

True, I'm struggling to think of an og Air Max (not including limited editions) that actually used real suede. They all used durabuck or similar, but it was softer and better quality than the cardboard used on the retros.

Just looking at the pics, these are the best AM Light retros so far.

Why cant Nike do a "premium" release like Adidas do with the "consortium" line ???
that way they could concentrate on the basics like shape and materials and justify charging a premium for them ! - hey who am i kidding they'd only f**k it up as usual.
You really have to wonder how supplies the "knowledge" for releases like this?

All that said i still might go in and look at these today to satisfy my curiosity, its the first AM I've been interested in since the Pattas.

Cant wait to see the first pair of these go up on the Bay - the hypebeasts reselling the Huarache -frees are knocking them out now at cost!

why should we have to pay a premium price to get a decent shape???.....sounds a bit dodgy to me.

+ it's usually a con, look at the tabula risa release, the 500 is the same shape as previous retros same goes for the decade hi,don't be fooled by the pictures.

i thought they were saying the 500s were a different shape, to be fair most of the consortiums are something better than the norm, although i would agree a few of the releases are pointless shite.
