The mids definitely caused mixed feelings round these parts, but the Nike All Court is definitely a shoe we're big on. That's because we're rapidly aging and need shoes that don't make us look like moon men, or Jonathan King back when he rocked the OG Pump in 'You' magazine back in the day. Even if the original retro gathered dust on its release, and regardless of opinion over how much of a no-brainer it was, Jean Touitou jump-started this shoe in a major way with three letters on the tongue. All it took was an A.P.C. affiliation and a Hiroshi endorsement to set it off. We won't pretend we grew up preoccupied with a shoe like this in any way, shape or form, but as we've grown, we've learnt to appreciate a clean design. Factor in the fact deadstock All Courts (in mini sizes) were a mainstay of the original Crooked store inventory back in the day (and we can testify that they stayed pristine and don't look like any 'VNTG' variant, 30 years on), and our soft spot is reinforced.

The upper and the contrasting toe bumper is a striking combo, and this season it's evident that Nike are trying to get that Jack Purcell buck out of it. Premium suede on the upper and some earthy tones equals winning simplicity. There's a place in our cupboards for the current brace of Lunar lunacy and this resolutely retro styling too, just as long as the execution is this classy. We preferred the sole unit when it was a little more rough around the edges, but it's a minor quibble. These are on sale in the Crooked Store right now. A good look for the summer months. Both are on sale now.
