The comparisons between Kazuki Kuraishi's work for adidas's ObyO initiative and Hiroki Nakamura's earlier Visvim work in terms of aesthetics are an inevitability. That's not necessarily a bad thing. Where to launch the fall/winter range, Kazuki's offered some incredibly sober creations with MINTOS and Luker by Neighborhood (is that name a take on the Sex Pistols' label-hopping accumulation of 'Filthy Lucre'? We're not sure), left to fly solo, he's gone one up on the animal prints of early 2010 with full-on teddy boy, brothel-creeping style, using the Dellinger webbing-a recurring stylistic theme-as a focal point. It's hard to imagine anyone at adidas taking the ZX style this far leftfield unaccompanied, and it actually works in a very, very weird way. The forefoot weave maintains the elaborate details of a rock 'n' roll generation trying to dress up in difficult circumstances, while that sole has some 1984 clinical performance cool about it.

The arched debossed side details and vast metal ring fastenings give the whole design extra edge, as Kazuki seems to be atoning for his restraint elsewhere. The neoprene-style lining makes these extra comfy too. The byproduct is like Daley Thompson inadvertently wandering into Malcolm McLaren's Let It Rock store. These, the much-hyped Superstar 80s in family sizes and the K-Vulc interpretation of the Super Skate have hit the Crooked Tongues store.
