Between QS, inline, TZ and Bespoke, we're assailed with Nike Air Force 1s at the moment. Just when you thought the shoe that helped stoke the hype should've been put to bed, a ton a of new makeups (Futura seemed to lead a charge with regards to clean makeups with a hint of originality) arrive. The Air Force 1 High is one of the greats, superseded by the Mid on UK-shores when these arrived here in a major way back in the late '90s. Mids are strong, but the High is a great, great shoe, and the 2007 celebrations instigated something of a resurgence for the Uptown in its purest form. How many spins are there on a white-on-white or black that can still turn our heads? Quite a few. The speckled lines exercised here are none-too-shabby, kept to the rear of these releases, and nicely tied with the tongue too.
As ever, there's probably a higher concept at work somewhere here. We just see good materials, decent branding and a conservative use of colours on a shoe once used as the test bed for any wacky idea post-Bapesta. 28 years on, and still one of the best silhouettes Nike put out, regardless of the polarising chunk of that sole unit. Watching Rasheed Wallace repping for the Celtics last week in his Highs, with the strap still dangling, you know these aren't going anywhere, regardless of the innovations Nike keep birthing. Our pick here is the higher version...we still can't get enough of that gummy outsole goodness. Both Nike Air Force 1s are available for pre-order in the
Crooked Tongues store for release next month...
