There must have been a meeting at some point where the similarities between the Air Jordan 1 and Nike Dunk were discussed, and a similar influx of colourways schemed. We used to be able to keep up with the comings and goings of this 1985 masterpiece. Sure, the introduction of Retro+ had us a little shakey, but now? There's a serious amount of Jordan 1 Highs on the market. Some we've been ambivalent about, and others (the pseudo-KO nylon versions were good, and all perfed is a guaranteed favourite around these parts). Finally, it feels like Jordan Brand is catering to each layer of consumer rather that sating a thirst only to let the diehards dehydrate. A good KO retro? Upgrades from Durabuck to suede? We aren't complaining. And if you don't understand the market for the non Spiz'ike hybrids, there's evidently parts of NYC you haven't been frequenting.
These Jordan 1 Highs are a little busier than we prefer, but while they're unlikely to send you flying back from your chair in shock, and into cardiac arrest, they're alright. Shades of grey on one pair the burgundy stitch and Jumpman (any burgundy Jumpman brings back memories of indiscriminately buying any Jordan VII tie-in apparel that Cobra were selling) and perfed suede, makes one a personal favourite of the duo here. The crossgrain style patterning, olive outsole and lining, plus a purple swoosh is a little too much on a shoe that's best kept simple. Nothing life altering, but another couple of serviceable
supporting cast members to some serious Jordan pieces set to drop soon, both are due out around August at the usual AJ suspects. We're still heartbroken at the lack of VI Infrared double-pack love on European shores.
