If it ain't broke, don't fix it. That's our take on PUMA's classics. We don't need wacky applications - "wit" on our shoes isn't necessary. PUMA have a formidable archive of banging models, but it's always going to come back to suede. Why? Because they helped bring the material to the courts back in the late '60s, and because the PUMA Suede is one of the greatest designs in history. The Clyde took a theme pack walloping since its 2005 reintroduction, but during the last 9 months of so, the reissue of this model, restored from the banana shaped oddity that was on saleracks back in the early '00s to something a lot more dignified, has been treated with a quiet reverence, and they've sold steadily too. Drip-fed in well-timed drops dependent on the time of year, this duo of colours, set to appear in-store next month is no exception. Reading through our old Phat and RADs, we noticed the days when a skate store would broadcast that it had a stock of Suedes in during the early '90s - arguably, with its court, hip-hop, clubland and skate moments as the shoe-of-choice, few can match the Suede for sheer subculture hopping since it first dropped. That's why we're glad it's being treated with the reverence it deserves. Expect these to hit the Crooked Tongues store in a few weeks...
