We like a good Nike ACG boot. Superdomes, Goadomes (particularly in olive and army green), Rhyolites, Tarns and Ashikos all come Crooked approved, and after the 20th anniversary celebrations last year we were keen to see what was on its way. The very best All Conditions Gear pieces just seemed to spring from nowhere, and the Lunarpath ETW did just that, appearing as the Lunar Wood+ made an appearance with little fanfare. Lunarlon had long seemed like some fancy, dandyish application for seamless running shoes, not a bonafide offroad option. Turns out we were wrong.
If we had any criticism of previous Nike Boots we’ve broken out, they weren’t especially forgiving from a comfort point-of-view. We’ve learnt from blister-inducing experience that Timbs and Red Wings require a few mornings and evenings of theatrical hobbling on the beaten path to hardwearing, agony-free wear. We don’t expect that from Nike’s significantly younger rough terrain department.
The Lunarpath (which seems, from initial office wanders to fit true to size without fear of pain) is a great deal easier to chuck on and get moving. That upper’s certainly not groundbreaking. In the flesh it’s got an air of softened Goadome in the silhouette without the sense you’re towering over your fellow man and likely to plunge to your death in the event of trippage. It seems the whole world’s still moc-toe mad, so this shoe adopts a spot of workboot styling too. Where No-Sew, Considered, and some space age synthetic, breathable fabrics seem to be taking space when it comes to uppers, it was almost novel to see that this one employs good-old leather. None of that super-scientifical madness.
Lunar foam still puts some spring in our step, and the more resilient rough terrain outsole with toe bumper detailing opens the gates for a whole wealth of ACG possibilities. This colourway is the most traditional of this new breed in a week where we were assailed with new innovations in-store, and these are available
right here.
