Before we commence with the BBQ coverage, there's the not-so-small matter of this shoe to discuss. We were looking for something extra for yesterday's celebrations and our friends at Nike UK came through with this little masterpiece. We wouldn't be so churlish as to describe it as a Crooked collaboration or SMU, but rather a Crooked BBQ exclusive for the folks that made an effort yesterday. We love the Infrared Air Max 90. This might be a shoe that started life in the States, but we Euro-heads adopted it as our own shoe. We're talking about the pub shoe, rude boy, connoisseur, collector, casual runner classic that's never been surpassed. It's an important design and that's why we let it sit atop our Complex AM90 list last year. You've seen it on the AM90 Current in 2008 and a few other releases since, but when it's in Hyperfuse, it's powerful footwear.
The Hyperfuse's layered upper lets you look at a shoe that's instantly recognisable in a different way, but crucially, it makes that Infrared POP. That POP twinned with neutral shades is the key to the best looks in any OG Air Max 90 colourway, and this here is a remix done properly. It's a 'Scenario' remix as opposed to one of those CJ Mackintosh re-rubs that sullied our favourite UK release twelves back in the days when the AM90 was changing the game.
But you can't buy them. That's usually bad news, but if you attended the Crooked Tongues and Nike Sportswear CT BBQ yesterday, they were up for grabs as a giveaway. But we didn't want to give them to some clown with pleated ankles and Toms. That wouldn't be right. We saw a lot of great footwear on display, so only those entering our TIA: Live at the Barbeque competition are in with a chance of scoring a pair. If you attended the BBQ yesterday, shot a picture of your feet with your UK shoe size and #CTNSWBBQ2011 you were in with a chance of winning. Several have been claimed (check
our twitter for proof) already with some being given out on the night and winners still being selected (we've still got a few left waiting to be rehoused). Custom CT BBQ labeling on the box and "Infrared" Crooked/Nike Sportswear BBQ aprons in the package too (while stocks last) makes them doubly exclusive. These are a strong look — thanks to Nike UK for the hookup.
