adidas by Jeremy Scott S/S 2012 image
The Jeremy Scott line of revisionist '80's adidas is Kryptonite to purists, but it's a testament to adidas Originals' 2012 output that we can cover these and a faithfully reproduced training shoe that's made in Germany in the same week — there's something for everybody. When the first JS Bear shoe dropped we excitedly fired off emails to adidas requesting them, but we think they thought we were being sarcastic. There's no question that these aren't easy to pull off because of an excess of thematic wackiness, but that's where Scott excels with this range — he just goes crazy and the design team in Herzo must be perplexed by his requests. These are ridiculous shoes but we like them.

We noticed a fair amount of negativity on Twitter towards Jeremy's impending take on the Forum - it's probably worth noting that he reworked the Forum Hi — the towering one and not the Mid — in 2002 with a money print that indicated that he knew the story of that expensive shoe well. He brought back the Torsion Artillery in the early days of JS and the Metro Attitude pick and adidas Ewing homaging apparel proved that he's a fanboy when it comes to basketball shoes. From conversations with adidas designers, we've been assured that Jeremy is very specific about his silhouettes. In the office we might be too swag deficient to pull of a pair of these, but with a Kanye co-sign despite his Nike affiliations and while Weezy's in an odd place at the moment, A$AP Rocky and his crew sporting these alongside Raf Simons and Black Scale gear they've become synonymous with hip-hop's new high-end friendly vanguard of metrosexual goonery. That's quite an achievement, but no matter how dumb these designs have been, there's always been a sense of b-boy exaggeration in every creation that had crossover potential. And if the grown-up versions still have you scowling, you can't deny the cute-factor of the toddler editions.

Some have argued that these makeups of the Metro Attitude belong in miniature and for the JS Leopard, the version scaled down for tiny feet wins with the addition of the beast's head and not just its tail like its older brother. Ladies passing the Crooked corner of the office have become broody on a mere glimpse and hard-rocks have been cooing at these when they thought we weren't looking. The Wings 2.0's Captain America style patriotism still maintains that camp Pan-style flamboyance, but the wings' corset style fastening on the rear gives them a triply daft sense of speed. They aren't removable either. The wings on the JS Wings Denim are though, and as denim shoes go, that stonewash look that even extends to the laces, with an icy sole to finish is a strong look for the shoe. The jean-like embroidery and detail on the infamous additions to the shoe are a deep level of detail. And faux-fur with a tail is another challenge for the wearer.

The "grown-up" versions arrive in the Crooked Tongues store in a week's time, with the mini versions arriving in March alongside the terrifying surfing gorilla edition. Not to all tastes, but give us shoes that make us smile over shoes that leave us cold with bland, nondescript looks any time.

Seriously, prepare yourself to be laughed at if you wear those. I know taste is something personal, but deary me, they are beyond stupid. Looks like something Vivienne Westwood would come up with.
