At Crooked Tongues we're prone to padding out News pieces from a mix of habit and obsessive compulsive disorder. We were doing it a long time before some fellow in a Superdry t-shirt came into the office and told us that it was good, because it's content creation and content creation is apparently awesome. That's fifty or so words already, and we haven't even used the words
adidas Originals or Superstar 80s yet. We honestly believe that we might have used up our quota of Superstar talk back in 2005 with that wave of Shelltoe colourways and history talk, but truth be told, we don't think there's a better piece of shoe design. You can ask the design minds at any brand and they'll concede that this model is part of the holy trinity of unbeatable silhouettes. Whoever chose to put a toe cap like this on a leather basketball shoe was a genius, and when your weirdo creation becomes the norm, you know you've created a classic. Jay-Z is a serial Superstar wearer, and he could have any sneaker in the world. That's because he understands what this shoe represents.
Last year's BAPE edition of the Superstar 80s indicated that there's still a substantial level of love for both the Superstar and A Bathing Ape, but beyond that hard to find hype, don't sleep on the fact that Originals keep on banging out some agreeable colourways, and more often than not, they implement a shade of blue. These Big Sur suede variations that merge the shell with the upper and are finished with Orange leather stripes are pretty much perfect — it's bold but wearable and it's the perfect addition to our existing collections which have grown substantially since some genius decided to resurrect the 80s shape with the OG felt stripes in 2008. Even then, after we got our hands on money green striped pairs in 2009, we thought we'd never need another pair in our lives, but it looks like this shoe's got us hooked for life. The only inter-office debate is whether contrast shells or tonal shells are the best way to finish this model. Anyway, workplace arguments aside, these
drop in March as part of another good month for adidas Originals releases.
