Judging by their second duo of Saucony colourways, New Jersey's Packer have a decent knowledge of what the people seem to want at the moment. It might just have been a convenient alliteration of Trail and Tech that links both packs thus far, but we think these Tech offerings surpass the Trail colourways. At the end of the day there's zero point trying to make a Saucony GRID 9000 look like a brogue or anything remotely quaint — it's a technical runner and it looks at its best in colourways that reflect that. Making the sole monotone would be a fail, given its wealth of colour block options and these versions highlight every key element of the shoe and give them their own identities.
The first drop flew out, the Sneaker Freaker anniversary editions vanished as fast as they arrived and we're seeing more hype for Saucony than ever before. For too long, a strong roster of 1980s' and 1990s' classics was being slept on, but the Bodega creations changed that apathy. The use of colour here maintains the collaborative energy and we're a little more inclined toward the grey and orange variants, even though orange and teal is a good look. The treated suedes are perfect for the British anti-weather, while ripstop nylon, the Packer script on the support strap, mesh collars and extra scope for colour applications in that plastic lacestay and outsole GRID cutaway make these a fun project for potential partners. Both colourways go on sale in the Crooked Tongues store this Saturday. As we said, Saucony madness is upon us, so don't sleep if you're interested...
