adidas Superstars are here for good. It doesn't matter whether you overdosed on them in 2005 during the vast Superstar35 rollout — this shoe cannot be beaten in the design stakes. Nowadays we're so familiar with the shelltoe that we take for granted just how odd and pioneering it was as a performance concept back in 1969. No amount of marketing will take this shoe's subcultural stripes and despite interest from other brands, Jay-Z — a man who genuinely lived that hustler life and wore the rope chains back when this was a serious status symbol — still likes to break out a pair of white on whites. It's just a powerful shoe and as potent a rap-related totem as any number of SL1200s or Krylon cans and it's funny to think that you had to brave spots like Acupuncture during its cupboard-sized store days to grab deadstock pairs before the dawn of adidas Originals.

Nowadays, no season is complete without a scattering of premium executions and since the 80s edition (the best shape for this shoe) came back with an assist from honourary Crooked overlord Chris Law during his adidas days, pretty much every sample we see holds a certain appeal. adidas Originals aren't shy when it comes to snakeskin and since those glorious snake Concords, they've chucked reptile textures at a lot of things. They've also had a lot of fun with the Footpatrol Campus 80s snake stripes on the medial side look and these are an "homage" to that, delivering the shoe with black 3-Stripes in mustard, a light grey or navy (in a B-Side style) but no burgundy at present, echoing the FP collection. It's not an original approach to a 1980s icon, but with the quality of the materials, no pre-yellowed soles and those contrast toes, this trio is relevant to our interests and they arrive in the Crooked Tongues store next month...
