This summer, basketball's a big deal — especially on these shores when Team USA arrive.
We've already had the World Basketball Festival pass through at the weekend and we're getting nostalgic for 1992 all over again, back when British sports chains were heaving with NBA mini basketball backboards and Champion replica vests were all over Cobra and Olympus sports. That's also one of our favourite years for shoes — Flight Huaraches
, Mutumbos, Flight 180 Lows and Raids rocked our collective worlds. 'The Source' magazine had become even glossier by that point too, laden with ads for new clothing brand upstarts, with their own takes on basketball jerseys in summer issues. We get super nostalgic for that year.
Vests with tees under them seemed to be a switch in court style that complimented the seismic stylistic change that the Fab Five instigated (enter the long short era) and a soundtrack of 'The Chronic', 'Mecca and the Soul Brother', 'Dead Serious' and 'Whut? Thee Album' defined the year. When our buddies at K1X asked us to get involved in a basketball jersey project, we jumped at the chance to get all regressive and celebrate that sacred year with one of our favourite colour combinations ever. We're proud to sit alongside our friends at SNS, Solebox, Patta and Colette for this Nation Of Hoop Series project that goes on sale in Crooked Tongues and those selected stores very soon after a launch in Berlin this week. Because we didn't want to make anybody feel inferior with our D-Wade style physiques we refrained from modelling it and let Amberley (who secretly runs Crooked anyway) wear it instead.
