When Nike's got a platform to play with, you better believe that they're going to make the most of it. After all, even when you're a zillion dollar sport brand, every cent counts and they, along with every other brand, have been doing it for decades. Every flagship arrived with a scaled down but similar shoe for a more cash strapped audience. Now, with the gulf between casual wear and performance being significantly less spacious, the remixes of designs are a lot more playful. The Nike Lunarglide+ 4 is one of our favourite shoes of last year, with more and more folks besotted with the shoe's pronation and supination resistance, secure Dynamic Fit, comfort and sleek looks. It's a thing of beauty. So what else can you do with that formula? Every new runner we've loved over the last few years seems to be going upwards.
While we can understand — given the ever-increasing numbers taking up after-work running then socialising — the need for the crossover colours and fabrics of the Lunarglide+ 4 EXT, but the Lunar Chenchukka is strictly made for leisure use, unless you're insane and like running in moccasin toed footwear. Whether the world needed a chukka boot on the new Lunarglide sole is one thing, but the end product is pretty good on this Quickstrike debut for a new silhouette. We liked the Free Hybrid Boot a few years back and this shoe follows that performance leisure shoe principle. Lunarlon, a firmer foam carrier and a floating heel clip proves to be pretty good for sauntering around in. There's a nice contrast on the upper, with the workboot gone on a workout looks benefiting from that Dynamic Flywire Lacing, but the oiled leather feel suiting the boot concept. Not a classic, but a strange idea based on a modern classic that works pretty well. The
Nike Lunar Chenchukka+ QS is in the Crooked Tongues store right now.
