Nike Sportswear Air Flight 89 White/Royal Blue/Red

We've babbled about the brilliance of the Air Flight 89 (the shoe formerly known as the Air Flight Low) here recently, but this is too good a release to pass up. This is the model that had us losing our minds on its release and it's still one of the ten greatest basketball shoes of all time. Some shoes get bolstered by the passage of time, with the fact they're "retro" being their selling point, even if they weren't anything special the first time around, and shoes that were generally derided in their day, like the Air Pressure seem to be considered classics now in the Tumblrsphere. The Air Flight 89 was sought after in its day, its early 1990's editions were sought after and the early 2000's Foot Locker versions got the nod too. It's a shoe that's easily on a par with the Jordan IV (with which it shares the same tooling and an upside down tag on the inner tongue). We don't think the Flight Lite retro got a decent enough distribution on these shores (that AC edition still makes us shudder with rage) and the original Flight catalogue is ripe for reissues that would shift as part of the current slim jean and hi-top movement, but we can't get mad while this Flight is still being produced. This White/Royal Blue and Red version is an OG colourway that dates back to 1989, and it's a makeup that was produced for a few seasons, and here it is again, fairly faithfully reproduced, down to the grey accents, but lacking the more pronounced toe box perforations. This retro is a Quickstrike, but we want more Flight 89s in our lives - this model got an extensive outing in 'The Face's legendary March 1991 'Ruder Than the Rest' feature (a testament to the model's staying power at a particularly fickle time for footwear) and we need those all red editions with the white swoosh back in our lives. Please make it happen Nike. In the meantime, these are available in the Crooked Tongues store right now...
