![]() 'Awaydays' is definitely a good read. We can't testify as to the quality of the movie adaptation as we haven't seen it yet, but reliable sources (i.e. People that don't like dreck like 'The Football Factory') have told us it's pretty decent. We've never understood the need to drive home the authenticity of a wardrobe over such cinematic trivialities as acting, editing and direction, because that's how you end up with a film along the lines of 'The Business', but in the case of Kevin Sampson's book, adidas Forest Hills play a pretty pivotal role as objects of desire and a fast track to respect via those golden 3-Stripes. We also understand the daunting task that a brief to rework this shoe can entail - we looked between our fingers at the reactions to the first CT Munchen, and the impending Superstar release was pretty nerve wracking. The solution? Don't rework it. Sometimes, if it isn't broken, there's no need to fix it. Take 'The Firm' for example. Did Alan Clark's small screen opus need remaking? Nope. And with Nick "I don't make movies for cants like yoo" Love on directorial duties? Sounds like a classic in the making - cue more tiresome, "We got authentic outfits!" boasts and Robert Palmer ironically on the soundtrack. Whoopee sh*t. Fortunately, on being involved here, Kevin appreciated the original and kept it as is. The sole alteration on this pair is the 'Awaydays' tag on the tongue. No extra applications, no mesh substitutions and no points laboured - just a classic presented as it should me, making for an interesting movie tie-in that feels very right indeed. Peter Storms and adi on the feet is a relatively localised phenomenon, and in a world where all eyes seem to be on giant high tops, something to celebrate, so we're pleased that it's being treated with respect this for project. Packaged with a signed copy of the original novel, a DVD sampler of the film, capturing some adi-centric celluloid moments and a paper lining where the author explains why he pulled his creative punches on this SMU for maximum impact, these are available from adidas's No. 6 Newburgh Street store in limited numbers, complemented by some instore installations promoting the film. ![]() |
