| 28 May 2009 | - Rio Ferdinand 1World AF1s

These 1World AF1s have been a mixed bag in terms of how wearable they've been, but there's no disputing the overall freedom they allowed their influential collaborators. Last night's result might have left Rio a little sore, but he can rest in the knowledge that he's made one of rte strongest entries (KR takes it though) - that and knowing he's absolutely loaded. Rolling in it. And post-football, maybe he can sell his sub-Noel Edmonds "You've been merked" prank show format to Channel 5. Players being allowed to rework a shoe like this, is in theory, a rubbish idea. When we heard that Ferdinand had a shoe in the works, we thought it might be a prawn sandwich and Rolex style affair - visions of diamonique and primary colour patent sprang to mind. Rio taught us a lesson for stereotyping him.

Looking not dissimilar to the AF1 Supreme options from '07, the similarity works in his favour - premium leather textures at work, with added alligator effect and patent, motivational sockliner messages, plus some appropriate player number detailing on the heel, with the '5' also representing for the great man's online lifestyle magazine (in which we also noticed some threatening copy, "Obviously there’s also film, music, gadgets and fashion, so what are you waiting for? Sign up immediately!"), 'LF-1' and 'TF-1' lace jewels, and, yes, some gold up in the mix on the Swoosh and stitching, Premiership players are like magpies for that colour, but finished with an ice midsole it works extremely well.

Crucially, we can imagine Rio rocking these on the regular - his teammates must be deeply envious, and in the process Rio's created a road shoe of some magnitude. Round our way, at street level, kids will be jocking these tricked-out white-on-whites hard, far beyond anything Yeezy-mania has yielded. Very, very clean. These are available this Saturday (30th May) in limited numbers from 1948, where the man behind the shoe will be attending the launch. Obviously, spaces are limited. There's a a competition too where texting 'Rio' to 60030 will give you a chance to win a 1-on-1 with Ferdinand.
