![]() The digital domain seems to have rendered the days of waiting for a costly NTSC VHS of skate footage, or relying on a fifth generation dub officially obselete. For the second time in pretty much as many weeks, we've seen a full-length video project go straight-to-web after its premiere. 'Diagonal' is the debut audio visual project from the European side of the adidas skateboarding team, and it doesn't disappoint. Including sections with Brit Chewy Cannon, and the likes of Marcos Gomez, Seb Daurel and Lem Villemin doing their thing relatively locally. Dennis Busenitz's Euro-ancestry gets him an inclusion too, plus there's cameos from Mr. Mark Gonzales, Tim O'Connor , Silas Baxter-Neal and Benny Fairfax. Soundtrack-wise there's no half-stepping either, meaning some good musical picks without the safety-blanket of the staggeringly obvious. Whoops...sorry, we forgot this is a SNEAKER rather than skate site, but seriously, it's worth a watch. And yes, there's a tie-in shoe too. Up to this point, we've been on the fence when it comes to the vulcanized Campus. It's a shoe we love, and one with a great history of being appropriated for skate purposes, so it makes sense that it's the chosen model for this makeup. And controversially, it's a mid-cut too. But as with the Beemer 'M' series nod of the FTC Superstar last year, this is another special project refusing to bow to a current trend-level obligation to skulk on the shelves in black tone-on-tone. Using the art direction Matt Irving of Delphi gave the video, and recruiting him to design the shoe, there's a lot of appropriately diagonal imagery going on beyond the branding on that canvas heel overlay that reaches beneath the 3-Stripes and a lot of black suede, with a leather heel panel, and an all-gum sole. No one's missing that matter-of-fact print on the tongue either. It's a solid colour scheme and an interesting accessory to 'Diagonal' that's set for release in early October.
