![]() When the Clyde relaunched in 2005, we still maintain the events that commemorated its re-release and Mr. Frazier's brief world tour to coincide were a masterclass in how to bring a shoe back to the conscience of a discerning audience, with an air of authenticity and education amid the free booze. In the years that followed, we saw the shoe reappear in a number of guises, as PUMA's heritage totem of choice, but despite a mountain of suede and leather in that familiar shape assailing us seemingly on the daily, you still can't beat a fresh pair of Clydes on the feet. You can black 'em out, slip into Basket territory by making 'em leather, but suede in strong colours still wins. This collection, set for Spring 2010 keeps it real, and there's not a runt in the litter - green, orange and a lemon yellow are beauties. The only downside is that, despite our notorious levels of verbal diarrhea in the Crooked News section, we may well have run out of words, expressions, phrases and comparisons to encapsulate our Clyde fandom, having covered the shoes so extensively before. The usual debates about the shoe's altered shape will remain though - after the Suede got the restorative treatment, it would be great to see the Clyde's silhouette tweaked, but this roomy icon still has impact. Clean and simple. ![]() |
