adidas - Micropacer
With the Micropacer system first introduced in 1984 - the tiny digital display showing distance, and average pace amongst other things, this has remained a cult shoe since, and this suitably metallic retro retains its appeal. To see such high technology fused with a traditional runner from the masters of minimal, clean design is an oddity. The Micropacer was certainly the talk of my playground, with few of us even seeing as much as a picture of the rumoured 'computer shoes'. Considering the high level of gimmickry at work, the actual system works well, and it's remarkably restrained in terms of design, with the gold and red making this eye-catching without looking ridiculous. Sadly, it's hard to concieve a manufacturer having the balls to put out a fresh concept like this 22 years after it's inception. This is a limited edition retro that captures the look and spirit of the OG.
