Here’s an equation - ape plus adidas equals queues. And queue they did in 2003 to cop the proceeds of Japan’s streetwear doyen taking on the trefoil. The Super Skate was hardly an obvious choice for the Bape touch, but the shoe’s simplicity and silhouette works well and the extra laces, surprisingly restrained branding and lace jewel combining to leave even the most anti-hype fundamentalists secretly craving ‘em.
