Jordan - Collection 22/1
Jordan brand's recent double packs have been a bone of contention for many. Some saw the coupling of the iconic classics from the eighties and early 90s with some of their more recent (and shall we say 'aesthetically challenged') bloodline as a somewhat cynical attempt to sell twice as much product. At CT we are not quite the jaded and recognise the merits of this double-teaming twosome. Each pack consists of two Jordans whose numeric value adds up to 23, the number MJ played in up to until his first retirement in '93. In this instance you get the iconic Jordan 1 and the stealthy 22.
What really needs to be said about the Jordan 1? Inspired by 84's Nike Chicago, and flipping the same winged basketball image, 85’s Air Jordan 1 is the start of a sneaker endorsement that changed everything. adidas might have let Mike slip through their fingers and his early allegiance may have lain with Converse, but who could have guessed the true extent of Phil Knight’s gain? The shoe carries the standard Swoosh, unlike the Jordan output from ’86 to the present day. Yet it still carries an aura. Is it the timeless design? Is it the cultural importance of this collectable piece of leather and rubber? Is it the legacy, on both a sporting and corporate level, that Jordan’s name still carries? It’s a classic. This reissue sees the shoe in the return of one of it's original guises, this black and white colourway has never been reissued until now.
Also in this double pack is a black and red makeup of the Jordan 22. Originally released in 2007 this high-tech baller was influenced by the latest F-22 Raptor jet fighter - not the first time a Jordan has referenced a fighter plane. Incorporating high-strength, low-weight titanium and IPS (Independent Podular Suspension) these shoes really are a technical marvel, and like all Jordans will no doubt become a classic in time.
