New Balance bringing forth the '90s styled shoes has been something of an event for us. We almost (very, very nearly) got bored with a slew of 1500s, 576s and 577s,being the ungrateful characters that we are, yet in this and forthcoming seasons we've spotted so far, they're managing the juggling act admirably. NB must get some serious headaches trying to cater to traditionalists, new-jacks and the current renaissance for all things bright and tech from the early part of last decade, but the 820s were just the start of a slow trickle of pieces that we never anticipated returning, designs introduced, seemingly as C-Capped 'serious runner' retorts to the likes of the Air Max range.
Breaking out the moulds for the 850, it figured that the shape could be flipped for similar looking reations like this '92 design - that muted white-out version of the sole unit, topped with the admittedly, marginally less appealing (but still effective) panelling than its slightly more expensive brethren and mesh-heavy mix of fabrics, makes for a decent shoe, with some "Performance Engineered" goodness. We don't know what's next on the Vietnam-made NB comeback trail, but we're sure it'll be another unexpected resurrection.
